The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued an update to their guidance for children regarding cloth face coverings, testing protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE). As evidence has suggested that the use of cloth face coverings significantly reduces the spread of COVID-19, the AAP advises that all children aged two years or older wear cloth face coverings, “including the vast majority of children with underlying health conditions.” Regarding testing, a child should be tested if they experience symptoms consistent with the illness, were near someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or are scheduled to have elective surgery. Additionally, the guidance states that eye protection should strongly be considered alongside facial coverings.
